Rita Onwodi offers a whole range of services to help clients with recognizing and understanding the patterns which are not working for them. Rita assists her clients in developing strategies and healthy coping skills to deal with these issues, as well as, techniques to prevent the problems from reoccurring. These services include: 

Anxiety / Depression

When people are sad and anxious, they begin to experience negative feelings, think negatively and behave irrationally. At times, they become suspicious and fearful. In therapy, I use Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), a type of counselling that helps people identify and change negative patterns of thought and behaviour to help them deal with low moods and worrying thoughts. In addition, I offer behavioural activation therapy (BA), focusing on reinforcing, increasing and scheduling pleasurable activities and problem-solving that goes a long way to helping the individual regain their everyday healthy and stable mood.

Individual Therapy

I provide individual therapy to support clients in dealing with different issues and life stressors, such as workplace stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, using the Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy modality (EFIT) created by Dr. Sue Johnson. It is an empirically tested therapy method that not only alleviates symptoms of emotional distress but helps the client obtain emotional balance, well-being, and recovery of the self, helping the individual regain their everyday healthy and stable mood. It also helps people identify and change negative patterns of thought and behaviour. EFIT is a successful modality for treating emotional disorders based on attachment theory.

Family, Group and Couples Therapy

Couples and family members who love each other can, at times, be stuck in patterns of conflict and experience communication difficulties or traumatic incidents that leave them struggling to connect. I offer emotion-focused therapy for couples, families and individuals; it is a successful and effective therapy modality that helps you identify negative patterns causing loss of connections in your relationship and helps you to begin to heal and bond again by focusing on changing the negative patterns and behaviours that create emotional disconnection in the relationship.

Stress, Grief & Loss

In stress, loss and grief, one is often in a state of worry and tension caused by a challenging event or situation, such as the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or a traumatic injury or incident. My grief, stress and loss counselling sessions will offer you a secure environment to begin to process your emotions effectively. I use Behavioural Therapy and Brief Psychodynamic therapy modalities with a focus on your negative feelings, behaviours, and ways of thinking that may cause low moods and anxiety so you can learn how to become aware of them and question your negative patterns and thoughts and learn new ways to stop the unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that make you feel sad and anxious. Psychotherapy with me will help you to tolerate painful feelings and experiences and learn to regulate your emotions.

Education, Career, Vocational and Workplace Issues

Career transitions, workplace challenges and vocational issues can leave one feeling discouraged and unsupported. I integrated Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy and Short-term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (STPP) modalities to help you figure out the best solutions to your career and workplace issues. Working collaboratively, we will process the issues and work together to identify your specific concerns to help you develop strategies, skills and techniques for coping with and resolving the presenting problem.

Christian Counselling

When a crisis happens in a Christian's life, they prayerfully seek the support of a fellow believer to help them as they go through the stressful period and process and overcome the difficult situation. Thus, a person who shares the Christian faith and loves God is needed at these challenging times to help them walk through the wilderness experience and return to a place of faith, trust and hope in Jesus Christ. I am a Christian therapist with a Transformational Approach and Biblical Counselling Approach, and I integrate other therapy modalities such as CBT, Brief Psychodynamic, and Emotional Focused Therapy approaches. I help you overcome your stressors, stabilize your mood and mental health, and regain relationship stability.
